Moscow (AFP) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said much work remained before Moscow and Tokyo could sign a peace treaty, as talks Tuesday with Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe fell short of resolving the countries’ island dispute.
“There is detailed work that remains ahead of us, formulating the conditions for mutually acceptable solutions” for a peace deal, Putin said after meeting with Abe in Moscow, though he said the talks were “useful and substantial”.
