WWE’s Kane likely wins Republican primary for Mayor

May 2 (UPI) — WWE Superstar Kane, real name Glenn Jacobs, has likely won the Republican primary election for mayor of Knox County, Tenn, by 17 votes.

Jacobs, a former World Heavyweight Champion, defeated Knox County Commissioner Brad Anders by 17 votes with Commissioner Bob Thomas coming in third. Over 40,500 votes were cast in the GOP primary with the results being announced on Tuesday.

Jacobs will now be campaigning against Democrat Linda Haney in the general election that takes place in November.

The results will not be certified until May 21. The county’s provisional ballot counting board will be reviewing 43 provisional ballots on Thursday. The board will review them and decide if they will be counted.

The provisional ballots were given to voters whose eligibility was questioned by poll workers. Only one of the 43 ballots, an emergency ballot, will be counted no matter what. Four ballots were filled out because voters could not provide a photo identification card. The ballots will be invalidated if the four cannot provide identification by Thursday.

Each vote was counted electronically, requiring a certification lawsuit to be filed in order for a recount to take place.

“Thanks to everyone who helped win this historic victory!! The people who cast a ballot for me, my great team, my wonderful volunteers. Looking forward to VICTORY in the general election!” Jacobs said on Twitter.

Jacobs was last seen competing in WWE at WrestleMania 34 in April where he took part in the annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. He also faced off against Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble in January.
