N.C. Teacher Suspended for Hectoring Students About Respecting Obama

Yesterday, Breitbart News reported a storyabout a North Carolina high school teacher who began screaming atstudents who dared to criticize President Obama. Today, the teacher inquestion, Tanya Dixon-Neely, was suspended with pay by the school.

The roughly 10-minute video reveals thesocial studies teacher yelling at students for speaking disrespectfullyof President Obama. The classroom discussion started with an accusationof bullying by Mitt Romney which was apparently raised by the teacherherself. However, when a student in the class asks if Obama had admittedto similar bullying incidents in his book Dreams from My Father, the teacher begins yelling that she will not tolerate disrespect of thePresident in her class. She later goes on to say that people werearrested for criticizing President Bush.

Asked about the teacher’s behavior last Friday, the school initiallysaid the incident could be a “learning experience.” By Monday, after thestory picked up steam here at Breitbart News and elsewhere, the schoolseems to have decided a more formal investigation is in order. A school spokesman gave a new statement to the Salisbury Post which focused on professionalism in the classroom:

The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees tobe respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintaintheir professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve asan education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interactionwith students.

Ms. Dixon-Neely could not be reached for comment, and there is no wordwhen a decision about the incident is expected to be reached.
