Colorado: GOP Senators to Speak Out Against Sequestration at Town Hall

Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) will take their “Preserving America’s Strength” town hall to Colorado on Tuesday to speak out against the looming budget cuts that may cut nearly $500 billion from defense over ten years through sequestration.

President Obama has tried to campaign against “the Republican Congress.” But after new revelations about how the idea for sequestration originated in the Obama White House, Republicans are going on the offensive and use the proposed defense cuts to turn out voters in affected swing states like Colorado and Virginia.

“We look forward to visiting Colorado Springs to sound the alarm about the profound negative consequences of these cuts to our national security and economy,” the senators said in a statement. “This community — which plays such a critical role in our nation’s defense — will bear the brunt of the defense sequestration cuts.  It is a voice that must be heard in Washington.”

Romney is running ads in swing states blaming Obama for sequestration and the senators, on their “Preserving America’s Strength” tour, have already visited Florida, North Carolina, Nevada, New Hampshire, and Virginia.

The race in Colorado is essentially tied between Romney and Obama, and issues such as sequestration may help tip the state to Romney in November.

Romney campaigned in Colorado on Sunday and Monday, and Paul Ryan will campaign in Fort Collins and Colorado Springs on Wednesday.
