Michelle Hints at Political Future Beyond Barack

Today, First Lady Michelle Obama finally came to her husband’s defense over his abysmal presidential debate performance last week. “You know, I’m biased, but I think my husband has done a phenomenal job, not just in the debates but over these last three and a half years, and I continue to be in awe of how poised and consistent and honest he is,” Michelle said in Virginia. “It’s like when we were on ‘The View’ … I’m literally sitting there listening to him just lay out things in a conversational way, and I’m thinking, he’s right! This is where we need to go.”

Michelle’s perspective may be Obama’s problem. A presidential debate is not like “The View.” It requires him to know his stuff, rather than to self-perceive as “eye candy.”

She went on to talk about how she would campaign herself for abortion if her husband were defeated. “It is the rare instance where we take a deep dive backwards, where rights and freedoms are allowed to be taken away,” said the First Lady. “I just don’t believe women will not fight tooth and nail to make sure that we continue to progress. I’m not going let it happen, whether I’m [First Lady] or not.”

This is Michelle Obama’s first hint at a life in politics beyond her husband’s presidency. It will certainly not be the last.
