Joe Biden: Gun Owners Not Driven by Facts

On Feb. 21, Vice President Joe Biden summed up a week of being questioned about gun control by claiming gun owners who’d challenged him had “thrown out question after question… not because they are driven by facts, not because they are looking for a way forward, but because they are looking for roadblocks.”

His audience applauded as he mocked the idea that that Obama administration wants to take guns away from law-abiding citizens. He then talked about why law-abiding citizens don’t need to own certain types of guns.

He focused on why no one needs an “assault weapon” for “self-protection and recreation.” Of the AR-15 in particular, Biden said: “There are plenty of ways to protect yourself and recreate without an AR-15.”

He then mocked gun owners who have said this current gun control push is less about guns and more about control: “They said it isn’t about guns, they’re wrong. It is about guns.”

Biden assured Americans in 2008 that Obama was not coming for guns; he said of his own Beretta shotgun: “If [Barack Obama] tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem.”
