Slain Boston 8-Year-Old's Family Wades Through 'Nightmare' After Attack

The family of a Massachusetts child killed in a horrific attack Monday have opened up to the press about the pain they feel over his shocking passing while recovering from their own wounds.

Martin Richard, the 8-year-old son of Bill and Denise, was killed on Monday when two bombs exploded near the finish line at the Boston Marathon. Both Bill and Denise were seriously injured along with Martin’s 6-year old sister Jane, who, according to family member Carlos Hernandez, lost her leg in the attack. Martin’s mother Denise, whom family members initially feared suffered a brain injury, says Hernandez lost one eye.

“My heart bleeds,” Hernandez told Breitbart News on Tuesday. Martin was Hernandez’s brother’s nephew. His brother John, according to Hernandez, is too distraught for direct interviews with media right now, but Bill Richard, Martin’s father, released a statement to reporters on Tuesday:

My dear son Martin has died from injuries sustained in the attack on Boston. My wife and daughter are both recovering from serious injuries. We thank our family and friends, those we know and those we have never met, for their thoughts and prayers. I ask that you continue to pray for my family as we remember Martin. We also ask for your patience and for privacy as we work to simultaneously grieve and recover.

Hernandez sent a statement from his brother John expressing grief at the events that took the life of his nephew on Monday afternoon:

Today we lost a great little boy–my nephew Martin! I cannot even begin to express the pain that I feel right now I only wish I could wake up & this was just a nightmare. Martin, Uncle John loves you very much–always will!!
