The founder of the Black American Leadership Alliance (BALA) said the outpouring of support from working class Americans of all backgrounds for Monday’s “D.C. March for Jobs” rally, which the group has organized, has scared proponents of the Senate’s immigration bill.
Leah Durant (pictured) told Breitbart News that those opposed to the “D.C. March for Jobs” rally and who support the Senate’s immigration bill “know that our coalition speaks for the common man and woman in America, and that terrifies them.”
“It is our strong belief that now is not time to permit another amnesty adding millions more workers to swamp our labor markets and dramatically increase competition for scare U.S. jobs,” Durant told Breitbart News.
Our opponents are fearful that the fight against illegal immigration, which has traditionally been considered part of a conservative agenda, is now attracting the broad support of everyday Americans – blacks and whites, religious and non-religious, Democrats and Republicans, men and women who run the gamut from progressive to conservative.
Breitbart News will exclusively cover the “D.C. March for Jobs” rally on Monday in its entirety, live from 11 AM to 4 PM EDT. Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon will host the broadcast on Monday and will be joined by Breitbart’s Sonnie Johnson. Breitbart’s Matt Boyle and Matt Flynn will also be reporting from the event.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) will be the event’s keynote speaker, and Rep. Steve King (R-IA) and former Rep. Allen West (R-FL) will also be featured speakers. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) will also address the rally. Other speakers will include Herman Cain and Katrina Pierson, a Tea Party activist from Texas.
Durant emphasized to Breitbart News that those attending the rally all are concerned about “making sure that America’s jobs are preserved for American workers” at “a time when nearly 22 million Americans are either out of work or underemployed.”
Appearing on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125 with Stephen K. Bannon, Durant said that though she is a lawyer, her father was a welder, and an influx of cheap labor will make it more difficult for other black families to move up the socio-economic ladder like her family did. She emphasized that the Senate’s immigration bill is so flawed that it has united working class Americans from liberal and conservative backgrounds who may not have much in common politically to come to the rally on Monday.
Durant said those in favor of the Senate’s immigration bill are “attempting to use these differences to splinter and malign us. This is an old trick. What our opponents fail to understand, however, is that we are the very people who built this country and made it what it is today.”
“It was our fathers and grandfathers who fought the Second World War to keep America safe and make it the greatest nation on earth,” she said. “Our coalition reflects the views of everyday middle-class Americans rather than the political elites and big business interests from both the right and left.” She said those “big business interests” have “championed amnesty purely for selfish reasons. “
“Our voice is so diverse and growing so rapidly that the other side feels the need to mute us–but you cannot silence the truth of a grassroots movement that is spreading like wildfire for all the right reasons,” she told Breitbart News. “The Black American Leadership Alliance stands on a storied history of leaders who have seen the value in protecting America’s interests, its jobs and values.”
Durant said people like “Coretta Scott King, A. Phillip Randolph, Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, Cesar Chavez, Booker T. Washington, and Frederick Douglass” all have “understood the importance of reducing immigration to tighten labor markets and protect the interests of American labor.”
“We are undeterred by ad hominem attacks,” she said. “We stand together with one voice, white, black, right, left. We will continue to fight for the common man to see to the enactment of immigration and labor policies that promote fairness and basic justice for America’s poor.”
