California Assemblyman and gubernatorial candidate Tim Donnelly (R-Dist. 33) reacted to Gov. Jerry Brown’s October 11th signing of new gun control by saying, “Brown’s legacy is going to be one of leniency toward criminals coupled with the use of law against law-abiding gun owners.”
Donnelly spoke to Breitbart News on October 17th, explaining that while Brown certainly did veto an egregious gun control bill in SB374, he simultaneously signed numerous freedom-crushing gun control measures–especially the lead ammo ban (AB711) and the expansion of the “criminal storage” law (SB363).
“You look over here at SB374 and breathe a sigh of relief, but over there you see AB711 and criminal storage expansion are signed,” he explained. “AB711 is a hunting ban disguised as an ammo ban and SB363 puts parents in a place where they can be charged with a crime even if they have their gun locked in a gun safe. What if you have a gun safe and one of your kids finds the key? If they do find the key that makes you a criminal?”
He said some gun owners will try to solve this problem by getting a safe with a combination lock instead of key–or a combination lock and a key–but then other adult family members could lose access to the firearm if they need to defend their lives: “What if the husband knows the combination but isn’t home? How are other adult members of the family to retrieve the gun for self defense if the husband isn’t home and they are under duress?”
Donnelly says Democrats have “focused too long on hedging in law abiding gun owners, and Jerry Brown now has them cornered in a place where they may become afraid to even continue owning firearms” all because they are afraid they will face charges for failing to follow every jot and tittle of every line of the immense number of CA gun control laws.
He added: “If you look at the last four years under Jerry Brown there has been attempt after attempt to weaken the enforcement of crimes on criminals, and a simultaneous expansion of gun control. That puts the public at risk while simultaneously turning law abiding citizens into criminals via the usage of firearm laws.”
