On Sunday, Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) implied that he was investigating a run for the presidency. Commenting on qualifications for the Oval Office, Walker said, “I think it’s got to be an outsider. I think both the presidential and the vice presidential nominee should either be a former or current governor, people who have done successful things in their states, who have taken on big reforms, who are ready to move forward.”
He continued by stating that he would not “rule anything out” as far as running for president, and refused to say he would finish out his term as governor. “In my case,” he stated, “I’ve never made that commitment. To me, it’s not about the time you’ve served in office.”
Walker explicitly dismissed the possible runs of Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Rand Paul (R-KY), stating that the GOP nominee should be someone “exceptionally removed from Washington.” He went out of his way to bash Tea Party darling Cruz, stating, “I, like others, was a bit frustrated with the shutdown because I don’t think the way you make the compelling case to the American people that we can do better is by shutting things down.”
