Harry Reid: Senate Not Done Pushing Gun Control

Although polls show that a majority of Americans no longer support gun control, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) says the Senate gun control push isn’t over and “the American people will prevail on this issue.”

According to The Hill, Reid said “85 percent of Americans agree on limiting gun availability to people with criminal backgrounds or with a mental illness.”

Reid asked rhetorically, “Why should someone that has severe mental illness and someone who is a criminal be able to purchase a gun?” He said those opposed to expanded background checks “should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.”

The background check system we already have in place is a “criminal background check” system by FBI designation. Meanwhile, the White House has shifted its focus from expanding background checks to mental health reform
