Alabama Records 'Busiest Ever Two-Month Span for Background Checks'

Alabamans bought a record-setting number of guns in 2013 – so many that November and December proved “the busiest ever two-month span for background checks.”

According to AL.com, Alabama recorded a 31 percent overall jump in background checks for 2013 versus 2012. However, sales in December 2013 alone were up 135 percent over sales in October 2012, the last month before President Obama got reelected.

“No other state came close” to Alabama regarding its rise in the percentage of background checks between October 2012 and December 2013.

While many states sold a large number of guns during the first part of 2013, their sales slowed as pushes for gun control lost steam. Yet Alabamans continued buying at a record pace.

There were 77,374 background checks in Alabama in December and 59,213 in November alone.
