A North Carolina father is being hailed as a hero after he acted to save his daughter from a man determined to ram his way into his vehicle.
Christopher Jost was driving with his daughter when Remy Blaisdell Gagon allegedly began pursuing them and followed them into a Whole Foods parking lot. He then began plowing his vehicle into Jost’s car.
The 911 recording reveals their frantic screams and pleas for help.
Jost exclaimed to the dispatcher, “I’ve got a guy that’s following me, and he’s rear-ended me and now he’s following me again.” He added, “He hit us again! Oh my God!” Realizing there was no end to the attack in sight, he said, “Jesus! He’s trying to kill us! Please! My God!”
Fearing for his daughter’s life, as well as his own, Jost found the right time to prompt his daughter to abandon the car and run into the store, eventually running inside himself. But Gagon’s rage would not be quelled, although “there are no indications the suspect was acquainted with the victims before the incident.” The attack continued inside the store.
As ABC News reported, “After the victim allegedly chased [Jost] around a cash register at the Whole Foods in Wake County, police were able to take him into custody with no indication of a use of force and transfer him to Rex Hospital.”
Incidents like this speak to why Second Amendment rights are so vital. The 911 call reveals victims who are at the mercy of a dispatcher in the face of someone who is determined to do damage–or worse. Jost “acted bravely to save his little girl,” but it could have been a completely different outcome. This is why Americans are willing to go all-out to defend the rights of law-abiding citizens to legally carry a firearm to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Too often it does not turn out the way it did for Jost and his daughter. No one wants to have to use a firearm, but no one wants to be a sitting duck, either.
According to police, the accused has been charged with “two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of simple assault, and one count of careless and reckless driving.” There is also an investigation to evaluate if Gagon’s behavior resulted from any substances.
