A bill expanding gun carry rights was sent to Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) on February 20, along with three other pro-gun bills which passed the state legislature earlier in the week.
According to the NRA-ILA, House Bill 962 “clarifies current law to allow the carrying of a concealed weapon in a secured container or compartment in a motor vehicle without a concealed handgun permit.”
HB 962 was sponsored by pro-gun delegate Ben Cline (R-24) and passed by a vote of 27 to 13.
The three other pro-gun bills that passed this week were House Bill 1237, which “allows Sunday hunting on private lands with permission from the owner,” House Bill 127, which “allows persons to hunt big game with muzzleloading pistols of a caliber of .45 or greater” during muzzleloading season, and House Bill 715, which “establishes a new combined license for persons hunting with a bow and arrow or a crossbow.”
These bills are an early result of the landslide victories NRA-backed delegates achieved over Bloomberg-backed delegates on election day, November 5, 2013.
