Report: Obama Gun Control Push 'Stimulus Package' for Firearms Industry

An BATF report shows that while Obama “demonized” guns, a record “26.1 million” were produced during his first term. This led Gun Mag senior editor Dan Workman to declare, “Barack Obama is the stimulus package for the firearms industry.”

Workman pointed to Obama’s anti-gun rhetoric and said, “The greatest irony of the Obama administration is that the one industry he may not have really liked to see healthy has become the healthiest industry in the United States.”

According to Bloomberg, there were almost as many guns produced during Obama’s first four years as during President George W. Bush’s entire eight years.

Sturm, Ruger & Co. and Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. produced enough guns to bring the overall total for 2012 alone to “8.57 million.” This represents a “31 percent increase from [the] 6.54 million manufactured in 2011.”

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence’s Brian Malte tried to credit the growth in the number of firearms to an expansion of extant firearm collections rather than to an expansion of households owning guns. But on January 10th, Breitbart News cited an Economist/YouGov poll showing 39 percent of American households owned guns in 2013. That represented a five percent increase over the number of households that owned guns in 2012.
