Bronx Lawmakers Push Statewide Gun Registry as 'Safety Measure'

Last week Bronx lawmakers passed a budget resolution containing “a little-notice program to institute a statewide gun registry.”

According to NY1.com, “the registry would include the names of people who had recently been convicted of a crime.”

Senate Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeff Klein supports the registry, saying, “it makes common sense ’cause it’s really modeled after Megan’s law database for sexual predators.”

Assemblyman Carl Heastie said: “When you look at the amount of gun violence that happens in the Bronx, it’s good for people to know who certain residents are, who their neighbors are that may have been in trouble with a gun in the past. So it’s like a safety measure.”

Registry supporters will push to include it in the final budget due at month’s end.
