Freshman Rep. Vance McAllister (R-LA), who is married with five children, asked for forgiveness after a video surfaced on Monday that purportedly shows him kissing a woman that is reportedly his 33-year-old scheduler, who is also married.
“There’s no doubt I’ve fallen short and I’m asking for forgiveness,” McAllister said in a statement. “I’m asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I’ve disappointed.”
An anonymous citizen sent the Quachita Citizen, a local paper, the surveillance video of McAllister — who won a special election last year after being endorsed by Duck Dynasty‘s Willie Robertson — embracing and making out with his staffer in his district office in Louisiana. The video is dated December 23, 2014, which was, as NOLA.com noted, about a month after he got elected to Congress.
According to the Citizen, “McAllister has long had ties” to the woman and her family, reportedly having attended high school with the woman’s husband.
