Palin at Liberty Rally with Cruz, Lee: T.W. Shannon 'Thunder' That'll 'Storm Through' D.C.

Days after a poll showed conservative Oklahoma Senate candidate T.W. Shannon leading the GOP primary to replace retiring Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) campaigned with him at a “liberty rally” on Thursday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

They vouched for Shannon as a conservative who is cut from the same cloth as they are when it comes to standing up to the Republican establishment.

“Look at this guy, T.W. Shannon. He is the man from Oklahoma. He is the thunder that needs to storm through Washington, D.C. to clean some things out, and clean it up and turn some things around,” Palin, sporting an Oklahoma Sooners shirt, said, according to NewsOne6.

After closing a 35-point deficit to single digits in a poll taken four days after Palin’s endorsement, Shannon now has a 10-point lead, according to a Public Opinion Strategies poll, over more moderate Rep. James Lankford (R-OK).

According to the Tulsa World, Lee said that Shannon is a candidate who “shares our view of freedom,” is a “true constitutional conservative,” and “will call on Congress to expect more — to expect freedom.”

Shannon has said that politicians should not go to Washington simply to manage the decline of the country and should fight for bold principles that will turn it around. And Cruz reiterated that message, reportedly saying, “We don’t just need someone to go to Washington and vote with us… We need someone with the courage of his convictions to stand up and do the right thing.”

Palin also said that Shannon, who was arguably the most conservative House Speaker in the country’s reddest state, would be a reinforcement that senators like Lee and Cruz need in D.C.
