Sinkhole Swallows Parked Cars in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, May 1 (UPI) —
A block-long sinkhole that opened up in a residential neighborhood in Baltimore, Md. on Wednesday prompted the evacuation of several houses in the area.

The concavity is located around 26th Street & N Charles Street, the city mayor’s Twitter account shared a message Wednesday evening asking residents to avoid the area.

Please avoid the area of 26th St & N Charles St. A major sinkhole has opened impacting the CSX rail below.. Multiple city agencies on scene.â € ” Baltimore OEM (@BaltimoreOEM) April 30, 2014

Because the sinkhole opened next to railroad tracks used by CSX, officials have suspended railroad traffic in the area.

A building inspector was called to the scene as residents were being asked to evacuate. No injuries or casuals have stemmed from the incident.
