Smart Guns Not Smart Enough for Police Issue

Smart Guns Not Smart Enough for Police Issue

The 2002 New Jersey law mandating only smart guns be sold in the state once a “viable” smart gun is on the market has an exemption for law enforcement, leading one to assume smart guns are not smart enough for police issue.

According to NJ.com, the mandate excludes “law enforcement and military personnel…[and] antique handguns.”

Is this a tacit admission that smart guns are not as trustworthy as we have been led to believe?

At the least it suggests that smart guns have yet to be viewed as a viable option for officers who may have to defend their own lives or the lives of others.
