Good Guy with a Gun Stops Armed Attack on Georgia Courthouse

On June 6 an armed deputy outside a George courthouse engaged, shot, and killed a would-be attacker armed with a rifle and explosives.

The attacker – Dennis Marx – reportedly “planned to wreak havoc once inside the building.”

Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper told CNN that Marx’s intention was to get “in…[the] front door and take hostages.”

However, Marx’s plan was foiled; his vehicle was surrounded by armed officers as he drove toward the building throwing out “homemade spike strips” to try to hinder officer pursuit.

Marx attempted to run over the deputy during what authorities describe as “a full frontal assault on the courthouse.” The deputy began shooting, and Marx shot back – shooting through his own windshield, hitting the deputy in the leg, shattering bones below the knee.

Yet the deputy, though wounded, was able to kill Marx.

Sheriff Piper says Marx was scheduled to attend a hearing on drug-related charges later in the day.
