Gun Importer Lays Off 41 After WH Blocks Re-importation of '70-Year-Old Firearms'

Century International Arms laid off 41 people in Vermont due to new White House rules barring the re-importation “of World War II era M1 Gerand rifles.”

These “antique, American-made rifles” were going to be re-imported from South Korea, but the White House “blocked” the move.

According to The Brandon Sun, Century Arms announced: “The importation was denied despite our explaining that the denial would harm our company and pointing out that there is no rational, gun control reason to block the importation of these historic firearms.”

A ban on the re-importation of “military grade” firearms was one of the “common sense executive actions” on gun control the White House announced in January 2013.

Ironically, M1 Garand rifles that are already in the United States can be acquired by citizens through the government-run Civilian Marksmanship Program.
