Missouri Town Aldermen Override Business Owners, Ban Open Carry

Missouri Town Aldermen Override Business Owners, Ban Open Carry

On June 10, aldermen in Lake Ozark, Missouri, voted 4-2 “to ban the open carrying of firearms,” even by concealed carry permit holders.

Alderwoman Betsey Browning voted against the ban, saying business owners already have the prerogative to ban guns on their premises, whether carried openly or concealed. This ban removes that prerogative.

According to the Fairfield Citizen, Browning also said the ban is foolish because it discourages the carrying of firearms for self-defense: “There are bad people in the world, and by golly if I need a gun I’m going to have a firearm at my side or in my purse.”

The ban was supported by Alderman Larry Buschjost, who said: “For the life of me, I don’t understand why I would have to carry any type of gun, concealed or otherwise.”
