While draconian gun control legislation was being pushed by Colorado Democrats in spring 2013, Governor John Hickenlooper (D) appears to have listened to then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg over sheriffs throughout the state.
The question is why?
When Weld County Sheriff John Cooke asked Hickenlooper a very similar question on June 13, the governor first denied that he had even spoken to Bloomberg, then, three days later, admitted he had in fact done so.
Cooke asked why Hickenlooper “didn’t listen to the state’s law enforcement officers as much as he did to Bloomberg.”
This question became even more important on July 9, when Rolling Stone published, then quickly retracted, an interview with Bloomberg in which he mocked Coloradans who successfully recalled gun control state senators Angela Giron (D-Pueblo) and John Morse (D-Colorado Springs) and forced the resignation of a third senator, Evie Hudak (D-Westminster).
Bloomberg mocked the recall efforts by saying they were only successful in places “where I don’t think there’s roads,” areas he described as about “as far rural as you can get.”
Why would Hickenlooper ignore law enforcement to listen to a gun control proponent who thinks Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Westminster don’t have roads?
