Poll: 6 in 10 Disapprove of Obama's Handling of Border Crisis

Six in ten Americans disapprove of how President Barack Obama is handling the border crisis a week after Obama refused to visit the border while attending three fundraisers in Texas.

At least 57,000 illegal immigrant children have unlawfully crossed the border since October of last year, and federal officials expect at least 150,000 more to do so next year. According to a Washington Post/ABC News poll, 58% disapprove of how Obama’s dealt with the crisis and 33% approve. The number of illegal immigrant children who have entered the country has spiked since Obama unilaterally enacted his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program for certain DREAMers in 2012.

Though 66% disapprove of the way Republicans in Congress are handling the issue, much of the discontent comes from fellow Republicans. The poll found that 48% of Republicans approve of the way the GOP in Congress is handling the issue while 45% disapprove. Many conservatives believe that pro-amnesty Republicans, as Laura Ingraham has stated, are “not off the hook” on the border crisis

The poll was conducted last Wednesday-Sunday, and its margin of error is +/- 3.5 percentage points.
