Pro-Amnesty Groups to Senate Democrats, Obama: We've 'Waited Long Enough'

Top Senate Democrats realize that they may lose the Senate if President Barack Obama enacts massive illegal amnesty, but pro-amnesty advocates do not care; they want amnesty now.

On Friday, the Fair Immigration Reform Coalition urged Senate Democrats to turn up the heat on Obama and pressure him to enact executive amnesty as soon as possible.

According to a letter obtained by Politico, the group said that “any attempts by our ‘allies’ in Congress to delay or dilute administrative reforms will be viewed as a betrayal of Latino and immigrant communities with serious and lasting consequences.”

Senate Democrats are punting on whether Obama should “go big” on executive amnesty and are sending out signals that it may be better if Obama enacts temporary amnesty after the midterm elections to give them a better chance of retaining the Senate. Nearly 70% of Americans, according to a recent Associated Press poll, disapprove of Obama’s handling of illegal immigration.

But the group said that illegal immigrants have “waited long enough” for amnesty and told Senate Democrats that “every day that passes without administrative relief, thousands of families are separated by an enforcement machine that continues to terrorize our communities.”

“Inaction and delay in the name of perceived political expediency would be both morally outrageous and politically disastrous,” they reportedly wrote. “We will not forgive and we will not forget those who stand in the way of the relief our families so desperately need. The President must keep his promise and do his job and our allies in Congress must stand firmly with us.”
