On August 21 the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) reported that a 73-year-old Gwinnett, Georgia woman shot an alleged burglar through her bedroom door after which she chased him out of the house while “continuing to fire.”
According to AJC, the woman, Hilda Douglas, heard her doorbell ring about 9:45 p.m. She saw a suspicious vehicle in front of her home, called 911, and waited.
Douglas soon heard the sound of breaking glass.
She remained in the bedroom, but says she “could see light from a flashlight getting closer under her door.” When the bedroom doorknob began to turn “she fired one shot through the door” and heard the suspect scream and run downstairs.
Douglas also went downstairs and “fired several more shots” at the suspect as he scrambled to find a way out of the house.
According to WRCB TV, suspect Jamie Christopher Lewis was later apprehended at Eastside Medical Center, where he was being treated for a chest wound.
