President Barack Obama’s disapproval rating on immigration has hit an all-time high in surveys conducted by Pew Research. According to a Pew survey conducted August 20-24, 61% of Americans disapprove of Obama’s immigration policy while 31% approve and 7% have no opinion.
When Pew tracked how the country felt about Obama on immigration in an Oct 28-Nov 8, 2009 survey, 31% approved, 48% disapproved, and 21% had no opinion.
As illegal immigrant juveniles continue to flood across the U.S.-Mexico border and Obama considers more executive amnesty, other polls have found a higher disapproval rating. For instance, a Gallup poll recently found that 65% of Americans disapprove of his handling of immigration while 68% opposed Obama’s handling of illegal immigration in an Associated Press-GfK poll. A recent Reuters poll found that 70% of Americans believe illegal immigrants “threaten traditional U.S. beliefs and customs” while 63% felt that “immigrants place a burden on the economy.” And a Polling Company poll that found that a majority of Americans wanted fewer immigrants at this time found that “90% of likely voters feel that “U.S.- born workers and legal immigrants already here should get first preference for jobs.”
Yet, Obama is reportedly considering enacting executive amnesty to import nearly 800,000 more foreign guest-workers on top of granting temporary work permits to nearly 5 million illegal immigrants in America.
The Pew poll, conducted with USA Today, has a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points.
