Susan Rice: Don't Expect 'Rapid or Immediate Fruit' from Syrian Rebel Training

National Security Advisor Susan Rice explained that the training process for Syrian rebels would take “many months” and that Americans should not expect “rapid or immediate fruit” from the program.

Rice joined White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest at the White House Press Briefing to brief reporters on the president’s plans.

Rice praised Congress for passing authorization and funding for the Syrian rebel training program, adding that the White House would “move out as rapidly as can be done.”

She explained that before the trainees were brought in, they needed to be vetted and the training facilities still needed to built in partnership with host countries.

Rice also said she did not have a “precise deadline” for the effort but said that they were moving “as fast as we reasonably can.”
