Former Obama, Clinton Strategists: Republicans Will Take the Senate

Former political strategists for both President Obama and Hillary Clinton believe that Republicans will take back the Senate during the midterm elections.

During an Institute of Politics event at the University of Chicago, David Axelrod, the former Senior strategist for President Obama, asked a panel of political experts to raise their hands if they believed that Republicans would take the majority in the Senate in the mid-term elections.

Robert Gibbs, the Former White House Press Secretary for Obama, former Obama campaign strategist Larry Grisolano, and former Hillary Clinton strategist Howard Wolfson all raised their hands.

Grisolano explained that voter turnout would favor Republicans in close races — particularly in states that went for Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

Grisolano was tasked with micro-targeting and voter turnout during the Obama campaign.

He said that although Democrats had a clear advantage with micro-targeting voters and organization, it wouldn’t be enough to overcome even a slim lead by Republican candidates.

Former Obama press Secretary Robert Gibbs admitted that the top issues of the mid-term cycle favored Republicans, which is why he believed that Republicans would take the Senate.
