St. Louis Thanksgiving Day Parade Postponed Due to Ferguson Riots

An annual Thanksgiving Day parade in the St. Louis area has been postponed because of the continuing violence and riots in Ferguson after a grand jury decided there was not enough evidence to indict officer Darren Wilson in the death of Michael Brown.

“Given the unrest in our community following the tragic death of Michael Brown, The Christmas in St. Louis Foundation is postponing the Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade until later this holiday season,” the Christmas in St. Louis Foundation said in a statement. “More details will be shared once a new date is confirmed. In these challenging times, we encourage you to gather with your friends and loved ones to reflect, and enjoy this special and unique American tradition.”

According to KSDK, the “downtown parade has been a holiday tradition for the past 30 years” and thousands line the streets annually to watch over a hundred floats and marching bands.
