President Obama is not spending much of his time on Twitter, the White House assured reporters after White House reporter April Ryan wondered if he was “trolling” or “watching” other people.

During the Whtie House press briefing today, Earnest discussed Obama’s Twitter habits at length.

“Is he going around looking at the Twitterverse?” Ryan asked during the briefing.

“I can confirm for you that he is not spending much time doing that,” Earnest explained, pointing out that the president had “a lot of other things on his plate.”

He added that the president enjoyed answering “direct and serious questions” from the public about both climate change and basketball during his Twitter Q&A he hosted during a visit to Florida.

“And is he aware of some of the hate that has come to him since he’s been on the Twitterverse?” asked Ryan.

“Yes.” Earnest answered shortly.
