On August 18, an alleged armed robber who cornered a female clerk was shot in the butt by the clerk’s 75-year-old husband. The husband was sitting feet in away in a chair and unnoticed by the robber until it was too late.
The incident occurred in Terrell, Texas.
According to The Terrell Tribune, the alleged robber cased the convenience store to be sure female clerk Itidal “Mama” Fatayri was all alone, then drew a gun and walked toward her, only to cross paths with Fahed “Papa” Fatayri, who was “sitting a few feet away.”
Fahed drew the .38 Special that he keeps with him “at all times” and shot the alleged robber in the butt as he was turning. He described the suspect as a white male in his mid-20s who “didn’t get anything and ran out of the door limping.”
The suspect got into his car and took off, leading police on a high speed chase that reached speeds well over 100 miles an hour before crashing. He was taken to a hospital in Dallas to be treated and was listed in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon.
The Fayaris have owned their convenience store since 1997,and Fahed explained that this was not the first time he had to shoot someone. An armed robber allegedly entered his store about 20 years ago and Fahed said, “I shot him six or seven times.”
