Conservative Latinos to GOP Candidates: ‘You Insult Us Now, We Will Be Deaf to You Then’

Tuesday night in Boulder CO, two dozen Hispanic conservatives including the American Principles Project’s Latino Partnership, the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Hispanic Leadership Fund, Latino Coalition and the Hispanic Leadership Fund warned the Republican presidential candidates they will not support any candidates in the general election who use negative immigration rhetoric in the primaries.

Rosario Marin, former treasurer of the United States under President George W. Bush said “Heed our warning. Don’t expect us to come to your side during the general election. You are not with us now, we will not be with you then. You don’t need our vote now, you won’t have it then. You insult us now, we will be deaf to you then. You take us for granted now, we will not recognize you then,”

Discussing the purpose of the news conference on MSNBC’s “Live With José Díaz-Balart,”the American Principles Project’s Latino Partnership Director Alfonso Aguilar said, “We’re saying Donald Trump, we’re done with you. You’re ex-communicated. If you are the candidate, we are not going to support you. You’re not going to have our support to help engage the Latino community. We believe that he wouldn’t get the support of Latino voters and he would lose the general election. But to the other candidates we’re saying don’t follow Donald Trump’s path. Don’t embrace his policies and don’t embrace his rhetoric. If you do, we’ll eventually single you out, as well.”
