Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she has “a long list of the nice things that Republicans have said about me” and that she won’t engaged in the “mean-spirited and negative” attacks the GOP does on Thursday’s broadcast of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
Hillary was initially asked about whether she was or still is friends with GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. She stated that Clinton “got to know him,” and did go to his wedding.
After host Jimmy Kimmel brought up one of Trump’s past compliments of Hillary, she stated, “he’s not the only one. When I’m not running for something, Republicans actually say nice things about the job I do. In the Senate, I worked with a lot of Republicans. As secretary of state, I worked with a lot of Republicans. We have a long list of the nice things that Republicans have said about me.”
She added, “You may be hearing more about it in the months ahead. And then once the political season starts, I guess they believe that — and I don’t have anything — I criticize his positions because I really disagree, so strongly, with what he has said about immigration, what he has said about women. I really don’t understand why he’s saying a lot of that. So, I criticize his positions, but I try not to get into the personal stuff that you hear a lot from the Republicans as they go back and forth. I don’t think you need to do that. I mean, I think it’s important that you give voters an idea of what you stand for, what you’re willing to do, where you draw the lines. I’ve said I will do everything I can to find common ground, but I’ll also stand my ground, because I think there are some things that are very important to do that over. So, I don’t take it seriously. I don’t know why they do it. I guess they want to appeal to the far, far right of their party, and their cottage industry, that is out there being mean-spirited and negative about everybody, but I’m not going to go there.”
