Deputies in Miami County Ohio say a suspected intruder entered a home through a doggy door on Memorial Day and was shot three times by the homeowner.

The incident occurred during morning hours.

According to WHIO, the mother in the home stayed with the children while the father confronted the suspect. The mother called 911 and said, “We’ve got a robber. I need you to get here fast…I’m upstairs with my kids.”

A neighbor also called 911, saying, “I heard two gunshots and then a man scream no, and a third gunshot then nothing.”

Miami County sheriff’s deputies indicate the suspect entered the home through a doggy door.  Lieutenant Eric Lachey said, “He was shot in the hand, and in the leg.” Lachey then referenced the fact that there have been multiple unsolved burglaries in the area and he expressed hope that this suspect will be key to solving them.

The suspect was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot.
