President Donald Trump recognized a Florida Police officer on Monday for preventing a shooting at one of his properties, the Trump National Doral golf resort.
The president praised Sergeant Luis Celis during his speech to the International Association of Chiefs of Police for his quick response to the lobby of Trump National Doral, a golf resort in Miami.
Police officers were called to the resort in May because 42-year-old former male stripper and porn actor Jonathan Oddi allegedly shouted anti-Trump rhetoric and pointed a handgun at staff and began shooting. Prosecutors charged Oddi with the crime in June.

Sergeant Luis Celis of the Doral Police Department pursued and apprehended Oddi, an action that earned him a nomination as the IACP Police Officer of the Year.
Trump said he had nothing to do with the nomination but praised him for his “incredible” act of bravery.
“Sergeant Celis, that was really a job well done,” he said. “People are still talking about it. It was an amazing job.”
The president also recognized four nominees for the IACP Police Officer of the Year Award during his speech, including Officer Mark Dallas, who stopped a shooting at an Illinois high school; Officer Taylor Rust, who stopped a neighborhood shooter; and State Trooper Nathaniel Dawson, who defended himself from two shooters after he stopped their vehicle.
Officer Dallas ultimately received the award.
“Every day, our police officers race into darkened allies and deserted streets, and onto the doorsteps of the most hardened criminals,” Trump said. “They see the worst of humanity, and they respond with the best of the American spirit.”
