Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and claimed to give “zero” fucks about the push back from senior Democratic figures who criticized her embrace of socialism and trailblazing style of politics.

“I want to ask this question in a respectful manner, knowing also that you’re from Queens, so you will understand this question,” Colbert asked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “On a scale from zero to some, how many fucks do you give?”

“I think it’s zero,” she responded, to loud cheers from the audience. “If you think activism is inherently divisive, I mean, today is Martin Luther King Day,” she continued. “And people called Martin Luther King divisive in his time. We forget he was wildly unpopular when advocating for the Civil Rights Act. I think that what we need to realize is that social movements should be the moral compass of our politics.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s comments come after some senior Democratic Party figures, including Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), criticized her far-left policy platform and her trailblazing approach to politics, arguing that it does not appeal to the country as a whole.

On Monday, the 29-year-old Congresswoman underlined the differences between her and many of her colleagues by claiming that the world would end within 12 years unless more action is taken on the subject of climate change.

“I think that the part of it that is generational is that millennials and Gen-Z and all these folks that come after us are looking up and we’re like, ‘the world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change and your biggest issue is – your biggest issue is ‘how are we going to pay for it?’” she said in an interview with Ta-Nehisi Coutes at Riverside Church in Harlem. “And, like, this is the war–this is our World War II.”
