During his appearance on Friday’s Breitbart News Daily, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke addressed the controversy surrounding Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the Gold Star parents who attacked Donald Trump from the stage at the Democratic National Convention.

Clarke began by disputing SiriusXM host Stephen K. Bannon’s characterization of him as a hero. “The men and women I send out into harm’s way every day, those are the real heroes,” he said.

Clarke then referred to comments about the Khan family from a previous caller to the show, and offered his own view:

I believe that when you enter the political arena, like Khan did, and you bring your sorrow, and your misery, and your sacrifice – and of course, they sacrificed a lot; of course, their son died an honorable death serving his country – but you use that as a political hammer, to stand up there with Trump’s opponent, and try to swing it at him, and use it in that fashion? I think all bets are off.

Bannon, speaking as a military veteran and father of an active service member, disagreed with the idea expressed by Governor Chris Christie that “everything they can say is off-limits.”

“I would say, too, shame on Mr. Khan,” Clarke responded. “He can do what he wants. I don’t care what people do. But he politicized his son’s death, and I think he dishonored his son’s service by doing that.”

“Thank you for your service to your country, and good luck to your daughter, as well,” Clarke said to Bannon.

Breitbart News Daily airs on SiriusXM Patriot 125 weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Eastern.
