Mischievous Musburger Ends Monday's Broadcast by Saying Holly Rowe 'Was Really Smokin' Tonight'

ESPN play-by-play announcer Brent Musburger ended Monday night’s college basketball broadcast of Kansas’ 61-44 victory over Baylor at Allen Fieldhouse by saying ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe “was really smokin’ tonight.”

Musburger, being mischievous and well aware of the story line he was involved in after he enthusiastically praised Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron’s girlfriend’s beauty last Monday, signed off the air by saying

“For Fran Fraschilla and Holly Rowe, who was really smokin’ tonight, I want to say, ‘so long from Lawrence.'”

This was the first time Musburger was back on the airwaves after he enthusiastically, in his patented way, noted Katherine Webb, McCarron’s girlfriend and a former Miss Alabama who models, was “beautiful” during last Monday’s BCS championship game between Alabama and Notre Dame.

The politically correct crowd howled, saying Musburger’s comments were outrageous. ESPN succumbed to the pressure and issued an apology last Tuesday even though Webb said she was flattered and needed no apologies. Webb’s father said the media was overreacting and Musburger deserved “a break.”

Musburger, though, did not issue an apology.

And his comment at the end of Monday’s broadcast proved Musburger was firmly aware of the hullabaloo his comments about Webb caused and, more importantly, that Musburger simply does not care what his critics in the politically correct crowd think.
