'Catholic 7' TV Deal with Fox Sports 1 Imminent
The “Catholic 7” schools, which will retain the rights to the Big East conference name and hold its tournament at Madison Square Garden, is on the verge of announcing a TV deal with Fox Sports 1, the anti-establishment national all-sports network set to debut on August 17 to challenge ESPN.

Reports indicate that DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Villanova will form the new league and add Butler, Xavier and possibly Creighton for the 2013-14 season. The league will look to add two more teams for the 2014-15 season.

The deal will pay each school nearly $3 million a year and could be a boon for Fox Sports 1, as it will allow the newly-formed network to draw a rabid college basketball fan base and have a foundation on which to expand its presence.
