Stat Geeks Rejoice! Hero Wolters and Jackrabbits Win to Make NCAA

Five more teams were eliminated Tuesday, but stat geeks around the country celebrated when their hero Nate Wolters was not one of them. The ultimate stat guru, Luke Winn of Sports Illustrated, accounted the NBA Scouts asking him if Wolters was as good as Jimmer Fredette early this season in his great piece, “The Nate Wolters Show: Critically acclaimed, sparsely attended.”

With the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in danger of losing the lead late, Wolters was thrown the ball with a few seconds on the shot clock and made a ridiculous between-the-legs dribble and bomb–nothing but net–to finish with 27 points on 15 shots and send the Jackrabbits to the NCAA tournament with a 73-67 win in the Summit League Championship game.

Wolters also added six rebounds, six assists in four steals in another dominant performance. As shown below, he is the fourth best scorer in the country, and ranked as the eighth best overall player in Value Add based on being in the top few percentage of all players in a number of categories.

The game eliminated North Dakota State. The other four teams eliminated Tuesday were Wright State, Mount St. Mary’s, DePaul and South Florida.
