Michigan Cruises to the Round of 32

An 11-0 run that started with 10:02 left in the first half catapulted Michigan past South Dakota State in the round of 64 contest to an easy 71-56 victory. The SDSU Jackrabbits opened at 16-10 lead to start the game but a slow start for Michigan quickly turned into a dominating performance.

According to www.valueaddbasketball.com, the game featured the No. 1 player in Michigan’s Trey Burke against the No. 10 player in the country in South Dakota State’s Nate Wolters – but Burke had a lot more help in this matchup. None of Wolter’s teammates were rated among the top 1000 players, while Burke’s teammates featured two sons of NBA players.

Michigan shot a lights-out 9 of 20 from beyond the arc and 50% from the floor while holding San Dakota State to 44% from the floor and just 4 of 19 from three. The Wolverines were led by to victory by Glenn Robinson III and Tim Hardaway Jr., both of whom are the sons of former NBA stars. Robinson and Hardaway scored 21 points each and went a collective 8 for 10 from behind the line.

Michigan now advances to the round of 32 to face VCU, a dark-horse pick to make the Final Four, on Saturday in what will likely be a much tougher match-up for the Wolverines.
