UMass to Allow Marathon Runners to 'Cross The Finish Line' at Spring Game

UMass football head coach Charley Molnar, who is an avid runner, is allowing those who could not finish the Boston Marathon on Monday due to the tragic terror attacks an opportunity to “Cross The Finish Line” this Saturday at UMass’s Spring Game at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

Runners will be invited to “take a lap around the field, cross the finish line which will be set-up at the 50-yard line and will be presented a gift on behalf of the UMass football program.”

“Competing in the Boston Marathon is a lifetime achievement and something to be celebrated,” said Molnar, who said he runs every day for the past five years. “These runners deserve to finish what they started and we hope we can provide that for them. We want them to have that feeling of coming down the home stretch to the sound of applause and to have their friends and families greet them as they cross the line.”

The event will take place at halftime of the annual Spring Game, which kicks-off at 4 PM on Saturday. There will be free admission and parking, and the the school announced that the names of the runners “will be displayed on the stadium’s video board in recognition of their accomplishment.”
