The woman who dated Jason Collins for nearly eight years and was engaged to him said she only found out last weekend that Collins was gay. She said she had no idea he could even be gay when she was engaged to him.
Carolyn Moos, who played basketball in the WNBA and at Stanford, which is where Collins also played college basketball, told TMZ on Monday that Collins gave her a bunch of BS reasons for pulling the plug on their wedding in 2009, which is when they broke up.
She said Collins told her last weekend, years after he dated her while he knew he was gay, that he ended the relationship because he was gay.
“It’s very emotional for me as a woman to have invested 8 years in my dream to have a husband, soul mate, and best friend in him. So this is all hard to understand.” Moos said. “I care about [Jason] tremendously and only want the best for him. I want Jason to be happy for a lifetime and stay true to who he really is, inside and out.”
Moos said she had been bewildered about why Collins ended the engagement until Collins called her last weekend. She said reading the Sports Illustrated article in which Collins came out was still surreal.
