Detroit Dominates Chicago, Ties Series 1-1

The Detroit Red Wings completely dominated the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 2 of their Western Conference Semifinals series on Saturday. They won 4-1 to tie the series 1-1.

Chicago struck first with a goal by Patrick Kane, his first of the 2013 playoffs, but that is all Chicago did. Detroit out played Chicago from the beginning to the end. Damien Brunner scored his fourth goal of the playoffs at 2:40 of the second to tie the game. Detroit kept the puck in Chicago’s zone and Brendan Smith put the puck past goalie Corey Crawford at 16:08 of the second.

They received goals in the third from Johan Franzen and Valtteri Filppula. The goal was Franzen’s first even-strength goal of the playoffs. His previous three were on the power play in the first round against the Anaheim Ducks. This was Filppula’s second goal of the playoffs.

Captain Henrik Zetterberg assisted on Smith and Filppula’s goals, giving him 10 points in the playoffs. He is tied for fourth in points in the playoffs. Detroit outshot Chicago 30-20.

Game 3 is Monday night at 7:30 PM EDT in Detroit.
