Crosby, Bruins Back for NHL Showdown

Crosby, Bruins Back for NHL Showdown

Sidney Crosby scored on March 17 to lead the Penguins past the Bruins 2-1 (see photo). The goal was less than two weeks before Crosby’s jaw was broken, and less than a month before the Bruins postponed a game after the bombing at the Boston Marathon. Those two teams will now meet in the Eastern Conference finals.

The Penguins won 15 straight this year, the most in 20 years, but lost the streak just two short of the NHL-record 17 after Crosby went down. The injury temporarily sunk hopes in Pittsburgh, where Crosby had missed much of the previous three seasons with concussions.

However, he returned to play a decisive role in fending off a surprising challenge from the New York Islanders. The Penguins then wrapped up a 4-1 series win over Ottawa Friday.

The Bruins Gregory Campbell then broke a 1-1 tie with two goals to defeat the Rangers 3-1 to secure the Bruins trip to Pittsburgh.
