Mets Put Wright On 15-Day DL

The New York Mets placed third baseman David Wright on the DL with a right hamstring strain. This is a major blow to the Mets.

“There are certain guys you almost can’t afford to lose,” manager Terry Collins said. “He would fit that category for us.”

It was not the only injury the Mets faced on Friday. Closer Bobby Parnell has neck discomfort and Josh Edgin is on the DL with a hairline fracture on a rib.

Mike Baxter from Triple-A will take his spot. Justin Turner will play third base on Saturday. Collins said if Wright is gone for a longer time he will move Daniel Murphy from second to third base. That is not his only concern. He needs to fill Wright’s spot in the batting order too. Josh Satin is in the third spot on Saturday, but no mention who will fill the rest of the days.

This is only Wright’s third time on the DL in his 10-year career.
