At a New Britain Rock Cats minor league baseball game in Connecticut last week, a man asked his girlfriend to marry him in front of the entire crowd. Standing on the field next to the Rock Cats mascot and an announcer, the girl promptly said no. “The third question, Jessica, for you, let’s get the question up there, David wants to know,” the announcer said before turning over the mic to the would-be groom, who continued, “Will you marry me, Jessica?” The announcer tells David to get on his knee. “She looks excited!” the narrator says. “Jessica, everybody wants to know, yes or no.” She says, “David, I’m sorry, I can’t, I’m sorry.” The narrator breaks into laughter as Jessica runs off the field with David following.
Similar refused proposals have been hoaxes before. The team has not commented.
