IndyCar Star Franchitti, Fans Hospitalized After Houston Crash

HOUSTON, Oct. 6 (UPI) —
Three-time IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti was hospitalized Sunday after a spectacular crash on the final lap of the Grand Prix of Houston.

Breitbart Sports Update: At least 13 fans reportedly were hurt as well and at least two were hospitalized.

Franchitti was pulled out of his car, put on a stretcher and taken to a Houston hospital after his vehicle sailed off the street circuit-style track and into a catchfence.

The accident came during a wreck that also involved drivers E.J. Viso and Takuma Sato.

Team owner Chip Ganassi, who was present on the track as Franchitti was removed from the car, said the Scotsman was awake and alert but had sustained some injuries.

Will Power won the second of two weekend races at Houston’s Reliant Park Sunday.
